Hire for the damage, not just the brand
Water: stop the cause, then document drying
Ask who fixes the leak and who handles extraction, moisture mapping and drying. A plumber's repair does not establish that walls or floors are dry. Ask for affected rooms, material readings, equipment placement, daily checks and the criteria for removing equipment. Do not assume every restoration company performs plumbing.
Fire and smoke: include contents and hidden spaces
After authorities allow safe access, ask which rooms, cavities, contents and ventilation systems are in scope. Have the contractor separate board-up, soot cleanup, odor treatment, contents inventory and reconstruction. Ask what is excluded and how damaged belongings will be documented before disposal.
Mold: fix the moisture problem and define the work
Ask for the moisture source, affected materials, containment plan, removal scope and completion criteria. Determine whether an independent assessor is appropriate for the project. A provider's certification claim is a starting question, not proof that every technician or job has been independently checked. Use the EPA guidance linked above when deciding what professional help is needed.
Reconstruction: a separate scope and decision
Drying, cleanup and rebuilding can be different contracts. Ask who repairs drywall, flooring, cabinets, roofing or structural damage; who obtains required permits; and which legal entity signs each agreement. Confirm the applicable city or county building authority for your parcel rather than relying on the mailing city.
The restoration comparison checklist
Use the same questions for each company. Emergency stabilization and the final repair proposal deserve separate decisions.
| Decision | Ask for |
|---|---|
| Dispatch | Exact franchise, actual crew availability, arrival estimate, assessment fee and after-hours charges. Published 24/7 hours do not guarantee arrival. |
| Mitigation | Written emergency authorization, affected rooms, work limits, equipment rates, moisture documentation, daily checks and completion criteria. |
| Contents | Photographed inventory, handling and storage charges, access, cleaning criteria and approval before disposal. |
| Repair | Separate rebuild scope, allowances, materials, permit responsibility, subcontractors, schedule and warranty. |
| Identity & credentials | Contracting legal name, applicable license and classification, current CSLB record, insurance evidence and any claimed firm or technician certification. |
| Billing | Who owes payment, approved work limits, change-order process, cancellation terms and documentation to submit to your insurer. Confirm coverage with the insurer; a contractor cannot establish policy coverage for you. |

Prepare a restoration project brief
Use these questions on your call: city and ZIP, damage type, when it started, whether the source is stopped, rooms and materials affected, occupied or vacant, contents involved, and whether you need mitigation, repair or both.
This worksheet stays in your browser. It does not submit a request, dispatch a crew or send an email. Share details directly with the company you choose; keep claim documents and personal records private.
How this shortlist was built
We selected six companies with official restoration pages and published Riverside County coverage. This is an editorial starting point, not a complete county census. The city filter uses only selected cities explicitly named on the reviewed company pages; it does not imply a local office or guaranteed service.
Company facts are separated from our editorial comparison notes. Phone, service and area observations are dated October 6, 2026. Business statements about 24/7 service are attributed. We do not reproduce testimonials, star ratings, award claims or response-time promises as independently established facts. A listed license number is company-published evidence, not a live CSLB check. Insurance and certification status remain unknown.
This comparison shortlist remains unpaid. A separate consent-based referral pilot is being prepared with ServiceMaster Recovery Services by 24/7/365 — Riverside; see /restoration/ for current availability. Existing directory records keep their identities and correction workflow; this source snapshot does not silently overwrite them. Additional companies can be considered after their identity, official service pages and public contact are matched.
Business owners: use Update this listing on an existing linked profile. For a company not yet listed, follow the new-listing inquiry instructions. Submitted changes are reviewed before publication; submitting does not verify ownership or credentials.
